Online gaming organisation Posh Bingo tried to prove that it had the government’s backing for its campaign –by parading a Gordon Brown lookalike around an upper class suburb. The lookalike was hired in replacement of the real Prime Minister, in order that Posh Bingo could humorously get across their message that even the leader of Great Britain himself was not too good to play the game of bingo online. The promotion was held in an upper class suburb, and its purpose was to try and gain new players from the area. Bingo and online bingo are traditionally seen as being the hobbies of working class people, with fewer customers on online gaming sites tending to be from affluent areas. Posh Bingo has attempted to reverse this in the past, with prizes on its sites such as spa breaks and meals at expensive restaurants.

Posh Bingo has no need to worry, however, as it does currently have a legion of fans who sign up to it and play online, with the hope of winning some of the opulent prizes that are offered. The prizes that Posh Bingo offers have helped to set it apart from other online bingo sites, as it has been able to create a niche that other organisations have so far failed to do. Posh Bingo has also made a name for itself with its glamorous and funny advertising campaigns, such as this one, which are designed to attract attention and publicity. This was clearly achieved with the Gordon Brown lookalike, as it made it into the news in the following days. The tongue in cheek promotion also referenced the lack of support that bingo has currently seen from the government, with the increase in tax that has seen a number of bingo halls have to close over the last few months. According to whichbingo.co.uk, the online bingo sector has not been affected by the tax hike from fifteen to seventeen and a half percent, bingo halls all over Britain can no longer remain open because of it.

Like most daughters, my family has traditions. One of our favorite traditions? Bingo! Every Monday night, my mother and I have been going to our local VFW to play bingo. Bingo games start promptly at 7:00 p.m. and end between 10:00-11:00 p.m. We play for cash–small amounts, but cash all the same. The cost for every game offered is $30. The payout on each game is $25, with 2 games upped to $100. What else do we go for? Food! It’s the one night of the week where we throw caution and diets to the wind and we scarf down chili dogs with plenty of onions and extra chili. Napkin? Check. Soft drink in hand? Check. Antacid? Check! Check! Check! What kind of bingo do we play? All sorts of fun patterns are required to get you that yell heard across the room (B-I-N-G-O!!). We play postage stamps, three layer cakes, six packs, Crazy L’s, etc. I must love hanging with older people. Sort of. I do enjoy the company of the elderly, but Bingo has come along way! We are seeing more and more young couples and middle aged couples with children attend. Bingo really allows you to get into the game instead of hollering from your recliner at the contestants on televised game shows. Top that Pat Sajak!
